The new Scaler 2.7 just came out and I picked up Venomode Phrasebox on sale from AudioPlugin Deals. When combined with Unify, you have a powerful set of composition and musical idea creation tools.
Anyone else using them?
Hi @tony10000
I have been a Scaler user since v1 and also picked up Phrasebox a while ago, although I find that Scaler does most of what I want now so haven't really used the latter for a while. The new updates in Scaler 2.7 are great.
I use a template in Unify with Scaler MIDI layers feeding their MIDI to different instrument layers. Like this...
In the above I have the first Scaler as leader set up for chords and the others set up followers, one for Bass and another for Arps. The fourth and subsequent layers could be used, for example, for Divisi string parts using that new Scaler feature. The sky's really the limit!
You could equally have Scaler feeding into Phrasebox on each MIDI layer or vice versa.
Do you have any particular way that you use them together? Would be interested to see yours and anyone else's config for this.
By the way, you can also buy 3rd party presets for Phrasebox like these --> https://embrays.gumroad.com/l/uoIOz
Cheers
Right now, I am just running SCALER >>> PHRASEBOX >>> SYNTH in Ableton for testing. Seems to work quite well. Next, I will integrate it inside Unify. Thanks for the info above. Will be useful!
I have been a Scaler user since v1 (...) The new updates in Scaler 2.7 are great.
Hi, I tried "Divisi 4 Part" song template. When I switch to "Perform" mode ("Phrases" & "Chord + Melody") with "Multi Voice Output" enabled, I got up to 15 voices (each one on different MIDI channel). Do you know if there is a way to set max. number of MIDI channels?

I purchased Phrasebox some time ago - it's good, but not as powerful as other (discontinued but still working on my PC) polyphonic phrase arpeggiator:
- 8 Tracks, up to 8 separate MIDI Channels
- Up to 64 phrases per Track = 512 phrases per project
- MIDI trigger map for every phrase and scene
- Unlimited phrase length
If "Phrasebox" was inspired by "Nora", I wish it also had all that features on board;)

I'm seeing the same thing which is explained in the manual, but not necessarily how I would like it to work...
Multi-Voice Output allows you to play each note of a chord onto separate MIDI channels.
When Multi-Voice Output is enabled, the MIDI Output Channel setting is ignored. When
a chord is played, all notes are played onto the Channel 1 and each individual note that
compose the chord is played onto channel 2 to 15. The lowest note is played on Channel 2
then every following note is played on a consecutive channel.
For example in a C maj chord containing the notes C, E, G, Scaler will play C on the channel
2, E on the channel 3 and G on the channel 4. All 3 notes will also be played on channel 1.
This allows you to configure a virtual instrument to only play notes from specific channels.
As this is new functionality in v2.7 it might also be worth checking on the Scaler Forum.

I will have a look when I get a moment (just off to some fireworks) 😀
I found the solution to Scaler Multi-MIDI output that works better for me: I made a "Midi Chord Split" with MuLab and PizMIDI plugins:))
I made a short video with Scaler, Midi Chord Split and Polyphonic Phrase Arpeggiator:
Interesting, thanks @robert-p 👍
Btw, I've been trying to track down that Nora Arp tool for years. Do you know if it is still available from anywhere (legally)?
The information about Nora's keyfile was posted by developers two years ago on their forum:
https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=270&t=550128&p=7846557#p7846557
I don't know if their e-mail address is still valid, but you can try anyways.

Thanks Robert, I'll give it a go.
@zinct There is a free version in the CM library. All you need to do is purchase a copy online for $5:
Good thinking @tony10000
I just looked through some old back copies of CM that I had in a box in the garage, and found the cover CD with it on (December 2015).
Maybe it's a cut down "cover disk" version IDK.
Also, it wouldn't surprise me if I already have something that would do the same as Nora amongst all of the ARP tools that I already own 😀

Phrasebox is the only polyphonic arp. currently available as far as I know. The Nora's advantage is it has 8 MIDI tracks - if you have i.e. a multitimbral string quartet you can create a different program for each instrument with a single instance of Nora plugin. It can also work in "Song Mode" - multiple patterns can be place on the timeline (which is synced with the DAW song position).
P.S. There is also a Kirnu Cream still available (4 tracks, not sure about Poly mode).

That's one of the many I own and have never really delved into. Too much software and so little time!
Hi All,
Mulab has some pretty good and flexible arpeggiation as well, see if i can find more info ...

Step Sequencer: https://www.mutools.com/info/M9/docs/mulab/mutools-modules.html#step-sequencer
The Step Sequencer module is a very creative tool to experiment with and generate all kinds of sequences like drum patterns, melodic riffs, chord progressions etc. It features 12 lanes of 32 steps. Each lane can be a single note, a (strummed) chord, or even a micro sequence on its own.
The Step Sequencer plays based on the note events it receives. When playing the Step Sequencer via MIDI the step sequence is automatically transposed so you can play melodies of sequences, a great way to generate new musical ideas. At the same time the Step Sequencer also features multiple patterns, each with its own loop, and state of the art sync modes that allow realtime switching between patterns and come up with original dynamic sequences.
The Step Sequencer also features Modulation Groups which let you group certain steps and vary (and automate!) the pitch, velocity and length of the grouped steps on the fly!

I DL the Phrasebox demo but ended up going with Chordpotion after testing it. Still have not had time to work with it as I left on vacation right after getting it.
