Hey y'all,

(I've moved this from https://forums.pluginguru.com/unify-share/vst-hybrid as it's kind of a different topic)

I've just updated my AMT instruments (Hybrid, Vacuum Pro, Velvet etc) to the 2021 versions (ie from 1.04 to 1.07). For the patches I've Unified (about half of them) Unify is now saying "Can't load patch: Plugin missing or in wrong format." for Vacuum Pro and Velvet.

I'm a bit confused as to why Unify is not recognising the newer versions. Any ideas?

Thank you 🙂

I would do a complete rescan of your plugins and a complete rebuild of the Unify database. Also make sure you can actually load the VST2 versions of the AIR  plugins in Unify.

If you post your guru files, I can check them on my system.

@funkninja

The "plugin missing or wrong format" message means Unify looks in its Known Plug-Ins list for a match for the format, vendor-name and plug-in name specified in the patch, and either does not find any entry at all, or the entry it finds does not match where the plug-in file (in this case a .dll file) is located.

Thank you @courtjestr and @getdunne. I've refreshed the plugins and db, no joy. Vacuum opened ok in my DAW and the file path there confirms the update went to the same location as the old version. There only seems to be one VST2 version of the synth so I don't think it's a format problem.

When I tried to copy the state over Unify said the settings were for Vacuum Pro, not Vacuum Pro_x64. Is Unify expecting a different name and is there anything I can do about that?

Thank you 🙂

Interesting. AIR might have updated the name of the plug-in in their latest build.

Could you please locate your PluginList.xml file (enter "%appdata%\PlugInGuru" in the address bar of an Explorer window and hit Enter), zip it and attach here? There may be clues there.

Also, one more thing to try (after zipping the existing PluginList.xml): Go to Unify's Known Plug-Ins list, delete the entry for Vacuum Pro, and then add it again by dragging in the newest version of the Vacuum Pro DLL file. Then try loading the patches again and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you Shane, here's the file as requested.

I tried deleting and dragging the new version, no joy I'm afraid.

Many thanks for your help 🙂

Thanks for the file. Would you mind repeating the process one more time? I'd like to see how the file changed after you deleted and re-added Vacuum Pro.

@getdunne

Thank you for looking at this. I've got 3 files for you:

PluginList old version - this is v 1.4 that works with my saved patches

PluginList b4 D&D - the one I already sent you. V1.7

PluginList afterD&D - as you requested above, dragged and dropped v1.7

Many thanks

@funkninja

I think I see what they changed. Vacuum Pro used to declare its vendor name as "AirMusicTech", but the new version says "AIR Music Technology" so Unify can't match the expected vendor name.

Please try the attached PluginList.xml (unzip it), where I have changed the vendor name back to "AirMusicTech" and let me know if you can load the patches without errors. Make sure Unify is not running when you swap the new PluginList.xml file into place.

@getdunne Brilliant!! Thank you, that's sorted it.

Is that something that can be (carefully) edited with Notepad++? Is it just replacing one name with the other or is there more to it?

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Note to self: Update to the latest version before Unifying a library! 😋

@funkninja

Yes, you can edit these files in Notepad++. That's what I did. The format is XML, and you must be careful to ensure it remains valid. Always make a safe backup copy before editing any file, and restore from the backup if you run into any trouble. As I advised before, ensure that no instances of Unify are running while you attempt to edit any of its configuration files.

@getdunne with that said, I would like to share the Unified library once it's completed. Am I right in thinking that atm anyone using the new version will have the same issue? Can I use scrub.xml to batch update all the patches I've made so far with the new vendor name?

Thank you

@funkninja

scrub.xml won't do what you're asking, but if you can post a link to the zipped patches here, I can fix them for you.

Please don't try to attach the whole library to a post. I think the forum software just deletes posts with attachments it doesn't like.

@getdunne Brilliant! Thank you so much 😀

The patches are here: https://www.dropbox.com/t/0O5XJzmm1czB0tVZ. There will be a few that have the new vendor name, but most will be the old one.

Many thanks for your help.

@funkninja

Thank you. The updated link worked.

It turns out only ONE patch had the newer vendor-name. A corrected version (just that one patch, zipped) is attached.

@getdunne thank you Shane. Don't they all need the new vendor name if they are going to work with the new versions for other people? I can reinstate the new PluginList file so they work for me too, or am I getting confused 🤔

I suggest keeping the old "AirMusicTech" vendor name for now, so they'll work for people who have already registered an older version of Vacuum Pro to Unify's Known Plug-Ins list. I've made a note to ensure that the next version of Unify will load Vacuum Pro with either vendor-name.

I can also make a version of the patches where the new vendor-name is used exclusively. I'll do that in a while (after livestream).

@getdunne ah cool, ok, thank you. That's a better idea. I'll plough on with the unifying and let you know when it's done.

Thank you very much again for your help 🙂

Hi @funkninja

Did you ever put your Vacuum Pro patches into a .guru file I can just drag in to Unify?

Thanks,

Doug

Hey @dsteinschneider

Yes I did, but I'm waiting to hear from Shane as to whether he's altered Unify to recognise both manufacturers names (otherwise it ignores most of the patches once the latest Vacuum update is installed). I know he's been very busy with lots of things. Hopefully the library will be added to the Unify page when it's sorted. 🙂

@funkninja

I didn't manage to get that change into Unify 1.9 -- too much else going on.

However, I think I figured out what's going on. It looks like you made the unified library using Vacuum Pro v1.0.4, which used the older vendor name string, but what I (and probably most other users) actually have is Vacuum Pro v1.0.7, which uses the new name. I modified your unified patches to reference the newer vendor name, and they seem to load OK now.

Here's a link to a .guru file with the patches you made, that I modified so it will load with v1.0.7 of Vacuum Pro: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dlhjty2m2du12bt/Unified%20-%20AMT%20Vacuum%20Pro.guru?dl=0

@getdunne Brilliant! Thank you Shane. Please feel free to add it to the list of Unified libraries when you have a chance.

Yes it was my bad. I made the library before doing the 1.0.7 update. Thank you for correcting it 🙂

@funkninja Thanks for the update - indeed my Vacuum Pro isn't showing up even though I created a folder for it and placed your patches folder under it.

UPDATE - I downloaded the .guru @getdunne posted and all is well - thank you all for creating this. I've never gotten around to really checking out Vacuum Pro until now - I like it.

Just adding the folders and patches isn't enough, because Unify doesn't know the new patches are there until you click the lightning-bolt icon to tell it to rebuild the patch database.

Using a .guru file has three benefits:

  1. It ensures the folder structure is correct (provided whoever made the .guru file got it right).
  2. After unpacking the .guru file, Unify automatically rebuilds the database.
  3. While unpacking, Unify keeps track of which folders are added/updated, and then rescans only those folders. Hence the database-rebuild operation is much quicker than it would be if you triggered it manually.

@funkninja Vacuum Pro is one of my FAVORITE plugins ever! I've performed perhaps 1000 live improvisations that included that plugin in the orchestration setup. Having it UNIFIED is absolutely terrific! Thank you so much for that! 🙂

You're very welcome @terrybritton, I'm glad it's useful. It is a really great plugin, and it was fun to unify it and hear all the patches. Do you have any uploads of your improvs?

@funkninja Indeed I do! (All of them, in fact - you had to ask!) 😉

Currently at 2,392 separate improvised pieces, each 5-to-10 minutes in length! You won't have time to listen to them all!!! 😉

(15) Live Musical Performances - YouTube

Also a presence on Fidbak.audio if you like super-high fidelity. Many of the original WAV versions of the mixes and performances are stored there. You'll need to create a free account. Terry Leigh Britton - Console (fidbak.audio)

I did one entire year of daily performances. Friday-Wednesday five pieces per show, and Thursday (Music with Pictures day) I did 13 per show. The shows ranged from 1/2 an hour (typical Friday piano days) to 1 hour 20 minutes. I just finished up a short series of shows, and am gearing up for a new series, though I no longer plan to do the daily shows.

I can show anybody how to do the same using the free tools of OBS, Voicemeeter and Cantabile Lite, if they are interested. One could potentially substitute Unify for Cantabile Lite, but I usually use Unify inside of Cantabile. (Cantabile Pro in my case.) There are a few other Cantabile users here at this forum. (Hey!)

Terry

Sounds great, the bass tone is killer on that track. Your handle is very appropriate.

@robert-p Very similar vibe! 🙂

Just counted up the performances - that project has produced 2,392 separate improvised pieces so far, each ranging from 5-to-10 minutes apiece, with some longer ones. All streamed live to good ol' YouTube who stores them all for free! Vacuum Pro found a use in probably at least half of them!
