The audio/MIDI settings now are actually more of a display of the currently available components. For example, if you work with more than one keyboard with a USB connection, the other keyboards happily join in and are activated immediately. So, all keyboards control Unify. This is not what is desired. You can now select, but these settings are not saved and are forgotten the next time you start the program.
It would be better if you could save the (or ideally several) configuration(s) and Unify knew which keyboard it should work with when the program started. So do not activate all available keyboards, just those that have been saved. If necessary, with a corresponding error message (this is how Cubase works, for example)
This is not what is desired.
Perhaps not what you desire, but some need this.
To get the behavior you prefer, go to Settings and switch off "MIDI device polling". You might need to restart Unify stand-alone for the change to fully take effect.
