When I duplicate a Unify instrument track in Cakewalk by Bandlab, and then try to rename the duplicated track, Cakewalk crashes every time. I am not copying the contents of the track, just the settings for inputs, etc.

If I create a new Unify track and use the same settings as above, that does not happen.

PC running Windows 10 current version. Current version of Cakewalk and Unify.  I was using patches from UniSCARY.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I can confirm that duplicating a track with the Unify VST on it (loaded with BELL - Atmosphereic 48 CD from PlugInGuru UniSCREAM 2020) does in fact crash Cakewalk by Bandlab, but I don't know why yet. Renaming the track didn't seem to cause any problem, but if Unify is causing crashing in one case, I wouldn't be surprised if it does in other cases. I will continue to look into this, but debugging with Cakewalk by Bandlab is very difficult, so I may not be able to fix it in time for the next Unify update. In the meantime, at least you have a work-around which is to load Unify manually onto a new track.

I have also tested a similar scenario (including using the same library/patch) in Logic Pro X with the Audio-Unit version of Unify, and this works as expected. If you can possibly test with any Windows DAWs other than Cakewalk by Bandlab, please do so and post results here.

I guess it wasn't renaming that caused the crash, as I did not get that far. Just clicking on the track name to try and rename it made Cakewalk disappear in a crash. I don't have any other DAW or I would be happy to try it for you.

Not a big deal for me as you say, it's pretty easy to work around.

@mschiff

I have added this to my "Host Compatibility" issues file.

I had this happen again last night when duplicating a track  in a different project. After duplicating, as soon as I tried to do anything in the duplicated track, Cakewalk crashed and disappeared without any error notice. Guess I forgot I needed to work around it.

Nothing to do, just letting you know.

BTW, I can create a new Unify track, copy the midi from the first one, and it works just fine.

It appears that this problem has been fixed in the 2020.11 update of Cakewalk. I just tried duplicating a Unify patch in one of my projects, and it worked fine. You can cross it off your list. 😉
