I am having too much fun with my X-Touch Mini controller and the controller files. Installed the new version of Knifonium and found out that they have changed the parameter names (cleaned up to more verbose names)
Please find the changes in attached file, have no clue how to change all of the presets other than one by one ....
Thanks for the new release of Unify, it is a blast to use; even more so with a controller AND the magnificent new layer muting.
You forgot to attach the file.
did not forget, tried twice, did not succeed ... i will try e-mail or maybe FB?
xml needed to be zipped 😛

You compressed the .xml file once to .7z format, then compressed the .7z to .zip. No problem, I got it, but in future just compress to .zip.
I don't have the latest Knifonium, and I only had a special time-limited license, which has now expired. However, you can edit the .xml file yourself. I recommend the use of a programmer's editor such as Notepad++ which can do syntax-coloring and error-detection on XML files.
For each <link> entry, you need to update the last part of the paramPath string, to the new parameter name, which you'll have to determine yourself. HOWEVER, you can probably do this more easily in Unify. Set up a patch with these parameter links, then open the linked parameters window for each macro knob. At the far right of each link, there is a small "ops button" (concentric circles icon); click this and choose "replace" and whatever seems to be the most appropriate choice among the updated parameter names. Your response curve, etc. will be preserved.
Make sure to save when you're done!
I have just spoken to John about this. He's going to release an update to the Unified - Knifonium library which fixes this issue.
Â
Thanks for the quick reply Shane, my older eyes picked the wrong file to zip
The zipped xml I sent earlier contains my corrected macro linked parameters; they work again!
Question:
Is there a "find and replace" process for you across (single) libraries or is it a (rather tedious) manual process? If the latter, I can maybe save Skippy some time and do it for him?
Â
Edit: had a look at some of your internals i.e. the partly man readable Unify patch files for Knifonium, and the exposed fields of the patch-DB ...makes me wonder whats feasible ... ) Default Notepad++ find-replace unfortunately corrupts files ... oops! I should have known from past experience, but am rusty.
Â
I would also like to congratulate you on the quality of your documentation (user-manual) for Unify: outstanding job!Â

I have a program here, that I modify as required for each case. Could be nicer, but at least it's flexible.

Are you a programmer?

Our .unify files are XML, but with a binary header containing a byte count, and a single NUL byte at the end. I attach a .zip file containing two small Python programs: one to strip the header/NUL off (so you can edit the XML) and another to add it back with the correct count.
Thanks for the toolkit, but I think i will manually load the config 335 times ... much easier in process more failsafe QC.
Not a programmer, but my company, as Architect and Systems Integrator, commissioned software development. Being a Mechanical Engineer Bsc by trade I had to learn new lingo ...Â
Â
Please make a safe copy of your existing Knifonium Patches folder, then try replacing with the attached one. I have swapped in your updated macro definitions in all of them. As I said, I can't test them myself, but if they work OK it could save you manually updating >300 patches.
Let me know your results.
Thanks a lot Shane,
Will give it a go after dinner, will keep you posted ...
Â
Tested one of every category ... Success!!! Knifonium v1.2 knobs work again, thanks Shane.
Skippy will need to check if the curve of VCO1 is still OK ,seems maybe a bit wonky to me, but that´s currently beyond
my proper understanding ...
Â
Thanks again, what´s not to love about this community ...

@getdunne In the revision of the Unified Knifonium library would it worth changing the the Knifonium INST layer MIDI output channel from NC to 1, as Knifonium only responds MIDI channel 1 and not MIDI output set to NC? Â
Â
Hey Erik,
Would you mind posting your MIDI Controller file for your X-Touch in the Unify Live forum, you can find a post I made about the X-Touch and the 'fun' I was having with it!! Since then I've managed to get it to speak to Unify to control the Volume fader of each Instrument later... but that's it! Solo, Mute, and Record use the same CC for every respective button, no matter what fader, annoying. Also, the rotary knobs, jump from 0 to 68, keep turning and sometimes they'll go to 70 (via the Midi Monitor utility). I don't want to clog up this thread so would you mind hopping over to my post?Â
Thanks man.
Â
EDIT: I've updated my X-Touch post in the Unify Live section for interested Unify/X-Touch users... It's almost 100% working now 🙂
Hi - I am still having trouble with this - I tried the "test" file that you posted to replace the patches, but for me the knob links seem to still be broken. I also redownloaded the guru file from the website in the hope that it might have been updated, but still no joy. Is there a definitive version of the unified library for the 1.2 version of knifonium that you can point me too?
Thanks!
I'm sorry, but I can't help with this anymore. My demo license for Knifonium has expired, and I don't like it enough to want to buy it.
Thanks - I notice that you did say earlier in the thread (March) that you had flagged this to John, and that he would be releasing an update to fix.
I have just spoken to John about this. He's going to release an update to the Unified - Knifonium library which fixes this issue.
It also looks as if Erik had done all the hard work of renaming the links.
Might I suggest that if this Unified library is not going to be supported now, the link to it should probably be taken down from the main Unify page?
Â
I have updated the link on the Unify Standard page - the link for Knifonium is now updated for v1.2 and included the updated knob assignments.
Â
Thank you all for your help on this!

Thanks for this - unfortuately on my system the knob links are still broken - they still point to the longer versions of the synth parameters and show up as red. I definitely have V1.2 of the plugin, so I can't work out why I am still having a problem.  I wondered if this might just be due to not refreshing the browser, but I have deleted the library, refreshed and then reinstalled and the links are still showing as broken.
Any thoughts?Â
I think I see what happened. The Knifonium VST applies an ultra-literal interpretation of the VST2.4 specification, resulting in shortened parameter names being exposed to the host (in this case Unify), unless the host does a few extra steps to get the longer ones.
Unify 1.6.2 does not do this, but the forthcoming v1.7 (expected in December) does, so the problem should go away with Unify v1.7. If you must have a working version of the library now, let me know and I will try to make one you can use until Unify v1.7 is out.
Ah great thanks very much. Â Absolutely not in a hurry for this so happy to wait.
I’m sure Daniela will be pleased too.
I think as Shane predicted this is all working now - at least it seems to be here. (Win).
