[Solved] Macro Knobs CC Assignment

Hi, I just find out that the Macro Knobs with assigned CC controllers are sending CC messages to the instrument. This is nice feature; however, it may be problematic when we link the knob to the instrument parameter AND have CCs assigned to the macro knobs – here is an example:

  • ModWheel (cc1) controls “cut off” parameter of Dexted – but the instrument receives 2 messages instead of 1: automation controlling “cut off” AND ModWheel CC1

Also, if we link the macro knob with CC1 assigned to the MIDI CC generator (that also generates CC1 message) we have a series of two identical messages being sent to the instrument.

Another thing: Linked Macro Knob controls Dexted "cut off" as expected, however, when I move the Dexted knob, Unify's Macro Knob doesn't move. (I checked KV Element, and it works both ways out there)

Macro Knobs with assigned CC's will only generate CC messages when you adjust the knob using the mouse. If the knob turns because the appropriate MIDI CC message is received by Unify, a second identical CC message will not be generated.

The first problem you describe with Dexed is a result of assigning CC#1 to both the Unify macro knob and to one of Dexed's own parameter knobs. You should do one or the other, not both. This issue is not unique to Unify; many DAWs would exhibit similar behavior.

Concerning your second observation, Unify's macro knobs are indeed one-way. They don't move when a linked plug-in parameter changes, because Unify's use of arbitrary response curves means the correct motion is not well-defined. For example, if you create a response curve which is U-shaped, a given parameter value would correspond to two positions of the macro knob. To which position should the knob move?

Thank you for clarification.

I see. Thank you.
