@getdunne

Shane,

I have a Presonus Faderport 8 that can also be used to send MIDI through the sliders. They are fixed to CC 1, 11, 7, 10, 5, 84, 2, and 16, but I've used Modmate to properly reassign them in other apps (Logic Pro X).

I'm trying to use the Faderport to send MIDI to Unify and I'm not getting anything - In Show MIDI I'm not seeing any activity at all, even from fader 1, which should work correctly even without Modmate.

Edit: Just tried this inserting Unify in Logic and it's receiving MIDI info correctly from the Faderport via Modmate. The problem seems to be in the standalone Unify.

Any thoughts?

Any other Faderport 8 users out there having any luck with using it with Unify standalone?

Have you selected the Faderport device in Unify's Audio/MIDI Settings?

Shane,

That did it! I didn't even realize there was a separate setting for that that needed to be turned on!

So much to learn!

BTW, a huge THANK YOU for Mod Mate!

Shane,

I noticed one more thing - If I use Modmate to reassign the Faderport slider CC's, everything works fine with the default Macro CC assignments. MIDI learn works fine, too, even if I don't reassign them - BUT ShowMIDI isn't visually showing any changes happening in the CC bars except for CC1. It's just a visual thing, as clearly the Faderport sliders are causing changes, but just no visual feedback.

Thanks again!

This is because you haven't changed the CC numbers assigned to the CC bars in the ShowMIDI view. The relevant manual section is https://pluginguru.net/unify/manual/doku.php?id=showmidi#pitch-bend_and_cc_strips , but basically, just right-click in any bar and select the CC number you want from the menu.

@getdunne Shane,

You must get REALLY tired of all of us dumb end users... I changed the CC bars in ShowMIDI and yep, everything matches now...

Thanks again for the help, and for the all the awesome stuff Unify does!

There's no such thing as a "dumb" end user, only good folks I haven't clearly explained things to, or who haven't found the information they're looking for yet.

Every question like this is a hint about how we can explain Unify better in future.

This has me wondering how to set up modmate in Unify?  It shows up in my plugins list as an "effect" so I can insert it on an aux channel or an inst channel, but not sure where it's midi output then goes?  Is there some way to reclassify it within unify as a midi effect?  I think I have the latest version.  I had forgotten that it dates back to the days of 4 controllers only, not 8.  Or is there some other way of remapping midi CC within Unify?

Thanks!

To use ModMate (or any third-party MIDI effect) in Unify, add it to one of your MIDI Effect plug-in subsets. This is required because the VST standard does not have a way for MIDI effect plug-ins to identify themselves as such.

There is no built-in mechanism for transforming MIDI CC's in Unify at the moment. I hope to add something before too long.

If you need to remap more than four CCs, you can use multiple instances of ModMate.

The Presonus Faderport 8 looks like an updated version of Frontier's AlphaTrack.

Are you aware of anyone using AlphaTrack with Unify?

I don't know anything about what controllers people are using, but if you post in the Live Performance with Unify section of the forum, you can ask.
