Hi,

OSX Catalina 10.15.2

E-licenser software: latest version

ISSUE:

When scanning plugins in Unify (standalone) that have authorisation on E-licenser (for example, all plugins from Vengeance), an e-licenser error pops up and those plugins aren't scanned succesfully.

Apparantly, Unify needs permission to use the synsopos.app when it is plugin-scanning e-licenser plugins, but it hasn't.

The synsopos app is part of the e-licenser software.

More info, from Steinberg support:

https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/360001406039-macOS-10-14-Mojave-Steinberg-program-wants-access-to-control-Synsopos-app

I hope permission to use the synsopos.app fro within Unify will be implemented / fixed.

Thank you for this report, especially the Steinberg link!

We'll be releasing an updated version of our plug-in scanner (PlugScanner helper app) very soon, which has the necessary permission flag set.

Hello

The problem is the same with Mojave...

Still no way to use Vienna plugs... Any plan of Synsopos (VSL) support ?

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm sorry it's still not working. I'll be looking into this. In the meantime,

  1. Can you drag/drop the VSL plug-ins individually into Unify's Known Plugins view?
  2. The PlugScanner.app helper app is found in /Applications/PlugInGuru/Unify/HelperApps. Could you please locate it and use the Finder's "Get Info" to check the version number? It should be 1.0.4.

Many other companies which use eLicenser are having similar issues with Catalina/Mojave. Please have a look at https://www.vsl.co.at/community/posts/t50344-Mojave#post277724

where it indicates how to manually give permission to an app (e.g. Unify and PlugScanner) to control another (Synsopos), and also below where it says:

Please uninstall all VSL Software with the included Uninstaller, then reinstall. When starting your DAW, agree that Synsopos can take control over your host, and it will be fine (and show up in your Preferences => Automation).

Continuing from my last post, as I couldn't seem to add any more after the block-quote:

I'm going to test this myself today. Please let us know your results here also.

Many thanks,

Hi

I don't know how they manually authorize a software because I can't. So, when they write "You can also manually do that afterwards by going to Preferences => Security & Privacy => Privacy => Automation and add the allowance there. "

How to ?

Why doesn't unify ask the permission, or why the system doesn't ask the permission...

I can see all softwares authorized to do it but I can't add Unify.

I had no problem with daws because they asked at the beginning if I authorized them. Then they wee added to the list.

I can use unify as a plug in in Logic and I can add VSL because Logic/synsoposs is authorized but as soon as I use unify in stand alone, no way...

I observed exactly what you report: No ability to add Unify (or indeed anything) to the Automation list, eLicenser-based plugins load in Unify running as a plug-in but not stand-alone.

I have sent a request to Steinberg developer support seeking help with this issue. I'm sure whatever I'm missing is something very small.

As I have posted elsewhere, I have contacted Steinberg for help with this issue, and am awaiting their reply.

I'm not surprised at no response. A number of years ago I stopped dealing with Steinberg due to their ignoring my enquiries and also their insistence on dongles.

Long ago, Steinberg was an amazing company. They basically invented plug-in technology. In 2004 they were bought by Yamaha, and have since lost their way. The VST group, in particular, is notorious for poor developer support.

I am reaching out to other JUCE developers for advice on dealing with the eLicenser issue on MacOS. Eventually we will get it resolved.

A small update for anyone who may be watching this thread:

I finally got what looked like a real answer from Steinberg today, but after following their instructions, Unify still cannot make the eLicenser work. I have, of course, responded, so we'll see if they come up with any more useful advice.

This is SO frustrating. I am sure I will eventually figure out what tiny magic tidbit I am missing, but in the meantime, all I can do is offer my apologies, and beg everyone's continued patience.

We're aiming for March 17, but I'm still working on an important piece.
