Hi Shane

I've been trying to get Ripchord Player to work because being able to play chords from single notes is very useful for windcontroller players.

At first I thought it wasn't loading any of my .RPC files that I made in the full version of Ripchord.  I was using breath-programmed patches.  By accident, I loaded up a non-breath patch and Ripchord Player played my chords.  So after a bunch of troubleshooting, I found out that the Player is not letting any CCs pass thru --  No Mod (CC01), no Breath (CC02), no Aftertouch, et al.  I don't think it's letting Velocity pass thru either -- just note on/off.

Is this a bug or the way it's supposed to work?  Is there a workaround?

Any plans for a Guru-chorder in the future?  Ripchord is extremely frustrating to use.

thanks for your help,

robo

This is the way the code works. Not a conscious design decision; I was only thinking about processing note-events.

The work-around is to put the Ripchord Player in parallel with a MIDI Filter (set to filter out note events) inside a ComboBox. I've attached a saved ComboBox state file (XML file, unzip and put into the Plugin States sub-folder under Unify's Presets folder) showing how to do this. The zip archive also contains a .unify preset set up this way--drag/drop into Unify, then Save to put it in your User Library folder.

Any plans for a Guru-chorder in the future?

No plans. Other chording plug-ins are on the market already, and John has never needed one for any Unify libraries, so it hasn't been a priority (and likely won't be anytime soon).

@getdunne This is the workaround I was looking for !!!

It works great !  All CCs are passing thru.

Totally understand about not making a Guru-chorder.  I use Cthulu, which is amazing and super easy to program.  I also use Logic's chorder which is even easier to program.

I'm trying to keep things stock with my Windcontroller Library, which has been a little frustrating compared to the 3rd party plugins I normally use.  But I'm managing and I'll keep working with Ripchord and maybe someday it'll get easier.... or maybe I'll write to Trackabout about upgrading its usability! lol

You should put this ComboBox Preset in the Unify manual.  It totally makes Ripchord Player playable now.  Even from a keyboard player's perspective, I couldn't imagine playing patches without CCs.

Once again, thanks Shane for helping me on my Unify adventures.  Cheers!

I'd just like to add that Pizmidi made a chorder that had the ability to assign each voice to a different MIDI channel.  This is incredibly useful for emulating horn/string sections where all the instruments are mono.  You can split up your harmonies among each instrument.

Pizmidi went out of business, but you can still download the chorder: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/midichords-by-insert-piz-here

Here's a great video by Tony Ostinato briefly demonstrating its power.

Unfortunately, that old version doesn't work on new computers.  But the code exists and maybe it can be resurrected?

So when all you're all done with your Unify to-do list and have nothing else to do (😆), maybe consider adding it to Unify?  Many windcontroller players would be incredibly grateful. 😀

Thanks guys!  I'm going to try the latest version of MIDIchord out.  I'm getting dropped notes with the ComboBox/RipchordPlayer workaround. (RipchordPlayer can't handle legato.)  If the new version of MIDIChord doesn't work, I may just settle on the full version of Ripchord.  Although it's a pain to program, it seems to work great.  I'll just have users download Ripchord separately.  At least it's free!  I've been trying to recreate what my Synthophone can do with Dynamic Harmony.  With Unify, I can setup a knob to enable & disable Riphord.  So I can have several instances of Ripchord and use a knob to add & subtract voices or even change chord inversions.  It won't be as powerful as my Synthophone, but other windcontrollers (EWIs, WXs & Aerophones) will be able to come close.

thanks again,

robo
