Some patches need to be reloaded before starting to play

Hello!

Unify is really my goto VST. I use it most often with Cakewalk for Bandlabs. From time to time I experience that a Unify instance does not play. I see that the keys are played through the midi notes. But nothing to hear. In that case I have to change the patch to any other one and then I can change back and the patch plays as expected.

With the standard library this problem happens very rarely. Which is the reason I never felt compelled to report it here. But with the Modern Cinema Renegade library it is every time I want to start. With the Modern Cinema Renegade library I have to reload every patch so I can be sure it is played when I start recording in my DAW. But even if I load the project new from the DAW, the patches wouldn't work before I reload them manually.

It also happens in PluginGuru CloudCity library. But not every time. It might depend on the patches used.

Two questions:

(1) is there a way to set a patch back with a single click like if it was reloaded?

(2) is my problem a known issue or is it perhaps related to Cakewalk?

Thanks!

Kai

Hold down ALT (Option on Mac) and click the Revert button.

 This isn't a known issue as far as I'm aware. Does it ever happen in the Unify stand-alone app?

@getdunne Thanks for the <Alt> revert button solution.

Good idea to test it with the stand-alone app. I will try that and report back 🙂

Bummer!

It happens in the Unify app as well. But it happens more sporadically than in Cakewalk. If I load my set-up in Unify it works without any reloads. But over time when I start, stop, and restart via the transportation controls one or more patches are starting to fail. A patch that might be especially vulnerable in that regard is GTR - IZB Cruncher (LITE).

Using the MIDI effects layers, I also run the Orb plugins from hexachord. But the same happened in the past with InstaComposer and Scaler too. So I do not think the problem originates from there.

The patches in the Modern Cinema - Renegade library use a lot of memory. I wonder if this might be a factor.

I'm very surprised that even those patches would not load perfectly in the stand-alone Unify. If you have a slower hard disk, what might be happening is that you're trying to play notes before all the samples are loaded. You may need to allow several seconds for these sample-heavy patches to load.

@getdunne

Everything production related runs on SSD or VME. I have a Hard-Disk, but only for back-Up purposes. My PC runs with 32GB RAM. Usually when I put a patch in place it works fine no matter if Modern Cinema - Renegade or CloudCity. Only after some time, when starting and stopping with the transportation controls in my DAW or when I tested with the standalone unify app some of the patches went silent and had to be reloaded. Maybe a memory leak then? Of course, when I really go overboard with Modern Cinema - Renegade and use several of those high memory intensive patches I have to reload them every time I want to play them.

So I guess it might have something to do with memory. Yesterday I had the issue while composing something new. So I changed some patches and used only one unify Modern Cinema - Renegade patch and some patches from AIR Music (Xpand!2 and Hybrid). The issues did not return during that session.

@kailab

Thank you for the additional feedback. I'm pretty sure there are no memory leaks in Guru Sampler, but clearly something is happening.

Ultimately what I need is a way to reproduce this on my PC here, because without that, I have no idea where to look for the problem. Please keep an eye on this, and if you should happen to find a sequence of actions that makes the problem happen every time, please let me know ASAP.

I'm sorry you're having this trouble, and I know this is not a satisfactory answer, but it's all I can offer at this point.
