I wonder if anybody else is experiencing within Unify 2 that when they load for Ex. the zENS - FULL STRING LONG and then try to OPEN the Kontakt 8 GUI it dominates their screen as mine does and I am unable to re-size it?

In my case this behaviour is occurring no matter what SSO Patch I decide to LOAD and then attempt to OPEN the Kontakt 8 GUI?

I decided to do further testing in Unify 1 with BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Discovery Station Library loading the Patch BPM - ELE Harp & Celeste Element 1 and the BBC Symphony Orchestra GUI also dominated all of my screen and could not be re-sized?

Probably Kontakt 8 is assuming a minimum screen resolution that is higher than or very close to your screen resolution (and sizing by default to within that) - usually plugins will have a scaling option you can pick to reduce or enlarge the size - so I'd advise to look for that first or try a different OS screen scaling. Unify just opens the plugin windows with the size they report on instantiation.

Yes, I have the same problem. You need to resize Kontakt to 75% and save that as the default size.

@dominique Thanks, I tried that but everytime I load a new patch the K8 GUI resets to 100% even though I have re-sized the K8 GUI to 75% and Set it as the default view.

It does change the DesiredHeight-plugin and the DesiredWidth-plugin settings within the Registry but those settings get reset to 100% with the loading of the next patch?

Seems like a Kontakt bug - instantiating a new plugin instance in Unify should have no effect on Kontakt scaling options. You might want to try repeating this in another plugin host/DAW.

I don't have Kontakt 8, but the Kontakt 7 player, and it works fine; it opens to 75% every time.

@dominique Thanks for your reply, that is very interesting. I think it might be time for me to discuss what is happening  when using K8 with the folks at Native Instruments.

@ivorybob I'm sorry, I misled you. It doesn't actually open at 75% when you change patches;

it's at 100% by default. my mistake 🙄

@dominique Thank you for the clarification,  as that confirms that after setting the K8 GUI Size to 75% and then Clicking on "Set view to default" that there is definitely a bug in K8 as it reverts back to 100% when the next patch is loaded and does not retain the 75% K8 GUI setting.

I have contacted NI Support and created a ticket and I am now waiting for there response.

@wavesequencer Paul, as you suggested I tried Opening K8 SSO Discovery in both Ableton Live 12 Lite and Cakewalk by Sonar and to my surprise the K8 GUI Opened at the setting of 75% which I definitely was not expecting to happen as I was expecting the K8 GUI to Open at 100% as it has been doing within Unify 2?

Also, I was wondering when the K8 GUI Opens at 100% within Unify 2 and I re-size it to 75% and also click on the "Set view as default" is there anyway to capture and Save that setting which I have just made in the K8 GUI within Unify 2 so that when I add another Instrument Layer to U2 it will now be forced to re-open the K8 GUI at 75% and not default to 100%, as it has been doing?

Furthermore, within Unify 2 if I Duplicate an Instrument Layer after re-sizing the K8 GUI t0 75% it will Open properly at 75% but if I Select a new Patch from the SSO Discovery Library and then Double Click to Load it the K8 GUI defaults to the 100% setting?

I can confirm that if I set the scaling option in another plugin (I tested with Hyperion) to a different value, it's going to get saved in the UI settings, and next time I open a (Hyperion) instance in Unify2 it is opening with the correct/previously used scaling.

I tried Kontakt8 player, and it's not remembering its zoom setting - when relauching the plugin it reverts back to 100%, but after using the 'set view as default' and swapping the plugin and swapping back to Kontakt 8, the setting was remembered just fine and the UI opened back up with the previous zoom setting.

This appears to work fine after opening a second instance of Kontakt8 in a new instrument layer (same zoom setting was used).. so it appears to not be a problem. These UI options have nothing to do with Unify - they are part of a plugin's own user settings data.

(Note I'm testing the Mac VST3 version of Kontakt8)

@wavesequencer Paul, thank you for your quick reply and please (Note I'm testing the Win VST3 version of Kontakt 8) so might the behaviour that I'm experiencing with the K8 GUI within Unify2 be only occurring with the Windows 11 OS?

If that is the case, I am really at a loss as to how I should proceed with getting this resolved as I have created a NI K8 Support Ticket but I'm still waiting for their response?

I did some further testing within Unify 2 and when a new Patch for Instrument Layer 2 is added to the existing Instrument Layer 1 (which initially the K8 GUI was sized at 100% and I re-sized it to 75% and "Set view as default" Ref. Note).

Note: This previous setting is not being retained when the Instrument Layer 2 Patch K8 GUI is once again Re-opened taking up most of my screen and once again forcing me to have to re-size to 75% and "Set view as default"?

If the UI is not returning to the saved setting after using the 'set view as default' button, then it would appear to be a Windows build specific issue for Kontakt8 - a bug on their part.

@wavesequencer Paul, why is this behaviour occurring only when I'm using Unify 2?

If you remember, when I tested Opening the K8 GUI in Ableton Live 12 Lite and Cakewalk by Sonar the K8 GUI did Open at 75% which then leads me to think that there might be something happening that the K8 GUI does not like within Unify 2?

The resizing to 75% does take place ( as I see it happen on the screen) but the "Set view as default" definitely does not occur within Unify 2?

I have no idea. Works for other plugins and works on Mac OS in Unify2.
I will check Kontakt8 with Windows OS when I get a moment.

@wavesequencer Paul, I know you have a lot on your plate but if you could find the time to check out this behaviour with the Windows OS so that I could definitively report back to NI via my Support Ticket that Unify 2 is not the cause of the problem and that it squarely lies within K8, it would be so helpful in getting this resolved.

I've tested in Win11, with Unify2 in both standalone mode and hosted in Ableton 12, and in both cases I was able open K(ontakt)8 in Unify2, set the K8 GUI to a different zoom size and save the setting, and reload K8 where it opens with my saved zoom size.

Video here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18etfkeDICThB-Tevy5jn4lH-mNZH73ah/view?usp=sharing

Windows sometimes does some strange things with scaling (especially if you set a custom windows scaling factor) - however - regardless of that, the saved zoom setting value in K8 player is clearly being restored correctly.

@wavesequencer Paul, I can't thank you enough for taking your valuable time to check this out for me and definitely prove that this behaviour is being caused within my own Windows 11 system.

Do you think it might be advisable for me to completely uninstall and then reinstall Unify 2 with the hope that this might clean up any bugs that I am currently experiencing with Unify 2 and the Windows 11 OS?

I really don't see what this issue can be in relation to Unify2 (so re-installation should have no effect) - the data stored when you click the 'set view as default' should be a value stored to a file controlled by NI software, and is not part of the plugin state data (which we would save as part of a Unify2 patch), because I can switch plugins without loading a Unify2 patch and the window size preference in K8 is preserved.

What screen resolution are you running and do you have a custom windows scaling factor set? On my system I'm just using the Windows default system scaling - currently 100% - on a 3440x1440 screen.

I don't remember if K8 has a VST2 version, but in my testing I used VST3.
