Each time I launch Unify on my multi-monitor Mac Pro running Mojave, it always displays on my primary display monitor. I can drag it to the secondary monitor, but it will revert back to the primary monitor the next time I relaunch it.

Something slightly similar happens with all plugin windows. For example:

  • I open Unify and drag it to my secondary monitor.
  • I select a patch.
  • I double-click to open any plugin in the patch (eg. Guru Sampler, LoudMax, Omnisphere, etc.).
  • The plugin window opens in the primary monitor.
  • I drag the plugin window to the secondary monitor.
  • If I close and then re-open the plugin, it will re-open on the second monitor.
  • But, if I select a different patch and open the same plugin, it will open back in the primary monitor.

Unify is working as designed. If you have specific suggestions for changes, we can discuss them.

I'm not sure I follow, Shane. Per Apple's GUI design guidelines, any time a window is relocated or resized by the user, this position and size will be recalled each subsequent time that particular window is re-opened. A notable exception is for system modal dialog windows which are normally displayed in the center of the display. You can verify this using the Finder by selecting File|New Finder Window (⌘N), relocating and/or resizing the new window and then immediately re-closing it without any further interaction. The next time you select ⌘N in Finder, the new window will open using its new size and location.

I'll keep these ideas in mind from now on, but I have to be honest and say that I'll prioritize function over UI niceties. My time and resources are limited.

+1

@getdunne This is should already be on your feature request list...page 17 😉 The amount of times I've moved windows to the 2nd monitor is ridiculous.

That's odd, all my windows open up where I last moved them on main screen or second screen. I'm running MBP with Catalina. The problem I have is the finder windows popping up all over the place. Must be an Mac OS issue. You might want to update.

Those of us using cheesegrater Mac Pros can't upgrade to Catalina. 😉
