I recently started using Unify2 in new Sonar projects.  Sonar has been hanging quite often where the Gui is present but is totally unresponsive.  In trying to figure out the cause, I started deleting tracks but then discovered trying to save track templates crashes Sonar complaining about Unify2 (screenshot below).  I don't know if the two scenarios are connected.  To get down to basics, I created a new Cakewalk basic project and inserted just one instance of unify2 containing a very basic one level patch.  It crashes consistently when trying to save the track template.  Doesn't seem to happen with Unify1 so far in tests.  Could someone see if there might be an issue there please?

I'm running the latest versions of Sonar and Unify2.  System is i7, 32G mem, SSD

What version of Windows are you using? If Windows 11, was it updated recently?

I've been using Unify 2 in Sonar extensively since Unify 2 was released, and it works great. I frequently use 5 - 10 instances of Unify 2 in a Sonar project.

In fact, I almost never create a track without it. I have the paid version of Cakewalk Sonar, and keep it updated to the current version.

@mschiff

Thanks for responding.  It's good to know Unify2 is working reliably for you in Sonar.  I should have mentioned I'm running updated Win11 and updated paid Sonar.  I think I found the hang problem which seemed to be an automation lane I was using to switch Baby Audio Transit bypass parameter on and off.  I found a workaround.  But the problem with Sonar crashing when simply saving a Unify2 track template still occurs.

The current version of Windows 11 updated its MIDI driver, and that has caused lots of problems with audio software. I don't know if that is the cause of your problem, but it is worth checking.

Looks like I'll need to install Sonar - if others can repeat a crash on saving a track template specifically it would be good to know.

@mschiff I also haven't forgotten about the issue you were seeing with Unisynth - will try to get you another test build focusing on sample loading logging (still no reports of issues on that from others).

Sorry, I keep changing this message.  I just now opened 2 different projects with around 6 or so Unify2 Instances.  I get consistent crashes with those projects when trying to save the track template.  But with a basic project with just one instance seems to work ok.  So I don't know what's going on with this.  Something seems to be on the edge.  I attached the Cakewalk dumps (.dmp) and associated .txt file if that helps.  Keeps mentioning Access Violations.

There's a whole thread on Cakewalk Forum about "Crash after Error Code c0000005" from 2023.

I'm looking into it - thanks for sharing the crash dump.

I do have a fix that could be related to the cause of the crash - it will get integrated into the next official release, however I also notice from your crash dump files the buffer size is reported as 5 samples - are those your Sonar audio device buffer settings?  (Typically we'd recommend running at  between 128 to 256 samples buffer size.)

(I've tested loading Unify2 and saving template projects in Sonar/Windows 11 with my latest build - and it's not crashing.)

My buffer size is 256.  Meanwhile, I'm real sure I found out what's causing the crashes.  I forgot that in today's testing I still had transit2 in the effects bin of the track that was crashing while saving track template.  I removed it and it doesn't crash now.  There seems to be a problem with transit2 and Sonar.  I'll find an alternative to transit2 - it was just doing autopanning.  If you have transit2, maybe you could try inserting it in the track effects bin.  Thanks for your support.
