10/10 for everything Shane and John,

This has probable been asked but since I'm new on the forum and my search on here couldn't find it........Is there any development upcoming to add After Touch to the Guru Sampler......More so for the filter than anything else at the moment 👍 👍 👍 👍

Kind Regards,

Micheal

@mikeymusic1 Welcome to the forum!

We may add Aftertouch / Channel Pressure support to Guru Sampler at some point, but in the meantime, have a look at our free ModMate MIDI effect. It will allow you to convert MIDI channel pressure (aka mono aftertouch) to MIDI CC1 (mod wheel), so you can use Guru Sampler's mod-wheel functions to control the filter.

This will have some limitations: you won't be able to use mod wheel and aftertouch simultaneously, to control two different parameters, but it's a start.

Please tell me more about how you use MIDI aftertouch in performance.

Hey Shane 🤩  thank you for your reply......I use after touch in performances on say pads or arps......Filter on LP 24db......filter cutoff right down......then I use AT pressure to do filter sweeps in realtime whilst playing.....mostly both hands playing which is why I can't/don't use the mod wheel.

PS i've tried mod mate and it doesn't seem to want to play fair 🤪

Please explain.

Also note some earlier versions of ModMate didn't handle aftertouch correctly. The latest version is 2.3.1. If you have an older one, you should update it.

Hi Shane.  I'm having trouble with getting ModMate to run in Cakewalk for Bandlab.  I copied the ModMate.dll to C:\Program Files\cakewalk\vstplugins.  Cakewalk PlugIn Manager Scan doesn't see the Win64 version at all.  It does see the Win32 version but it lists it as a VST Audio affect, not a midi effect.  I can open it in an instrument track, the GUI appears but it doesn't do anything because it's supposed to be a midi effect.  If I try to open it in a midi track, it doesn't appear at all in the listing.  I tried the VST3 version Modmate.vst3 and had similar problems.  Could you see if it works for you?  Unzipping might be a problem because you have to unzip the original file, then unzip the file within that.

Like many DAWs, Cakewalk by Bandlab doesn't really support external MIDI insert plug-ins. See https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/16510-midi-plugin-classified-as-instrument/.

That's one of the reasons we built Unify in the first place. Just load ModMate into a MIDI effect slot in Unify, either on an individual INST layer, or into its own MIDI layer if you want to send converted MIDI to multiple layers.

For some reason, Windows Defender keeps flagging the unzipped ModMate.dll (vst2 version) of either 32bit or 64bit version as a virus, so it immediately deletes it when I try to add it as a plugin.  However, I can get both vst3 versions added as a plugin to Unify (running in standalone).  I can add it to a layer and assign PitchBend to CC1.  Graphically everything is as you'd expect where if I move pitch bend, you see the graphic motion in CC1, but it doesn't move the Macro knob assigned to CC1.  It has no affect as if there's no output from the plugin.

I didn't realize the usage-instructions for ModMate were not linked on the product page. I'll ask John to fix that. See https://www.getdunne.net/download/modmate/

You have to check at least one of the checkboxes to specify which of the output-lanes each input controls in ModMate.

As for Windows Defender, ignore it; it's rubbish. Add an exclusion, or disable it in your browser, or use a different browser.

Your link made a big difference.  I got it working in a few minutes in both Unify standalone and in Cakewalk.  The other download from the product page had me enter my email and then download a zip file that in turn contained these other zip files.  Windows Defender was not liking it.  But the link you provided had just the single zip files, Windows Defender had no objections, and it was easy to install.  Yes, I understood I needed to check the checkboxes.  Cool little utility.  Thanks.

On closer examination, I can get ModMate to work with the synth that is in a layer.  It appears to pass the altered CC to the synth and work in that way.  But is there a way to get it to move the Macro controls at the bottom?

@craigr

A plug-in cannot talk directly to the Macro knobs. Please explain what you are trying to achieve in more detail. There may be simpler ways.

Let's say I setup PB (either up or down) to be translated to CC1 using ModMate.  I always have the Macro1 control assigned to CC1 which in this patch is assigned Link Parameter inst/5/mixLevel.  So how do I get PB to be translated and move the mixlevel?  I thought ModMate purpose was, because many of the libraries use 8 macro controls, that this was a way to use PB as an additional control.  I only have 3 CC controllers as is - this would give me 2 more (PB up and PB down).  Not a big deal, just something fun to play with.

@craigr68

Thanks for clarifying. The problem is that it's not possible to insert a ModMate instance (or any plug-in) into Unify so it intercepts and processes the main MIDI stream. There may be a way to achieve what you're trying to do without ModMate; I'll look into this.

Please tell me more about the MIDI controllers you use, and I'll try to devise an approach which can work for you.

I could actually do this now with Midiox.  I run my controller kybds into Midi Interface into Midiox where I can translate anything, then send it out a midi virtual port that then goes into Cakewalk.  One thing I do with Midiox is translate Aftertouch to Mod Wheel CC1.  Since many patches on all my VSTs have vibrato or filter sweeps assigned to CC1, I can keep my hands on the keyboard and use aftertouch for vibrato/filter sweeps.  Anyway, I don't really need this capability bad - just playing around with ideas.
