Whenever, it would be great to see some alternative modulation sources to link to plugin parameters. Eg.:

Velocity
Key (ie. key tracking)
Random (random value in range, generated per gate event)
Noise (ever changing random value in range)
Etc.

As a Reason user, these itches could be significantly scratched if only it were possible to output CC messages from a Unify MIDI Effect layer/insert.. though ideally I'm sure it would be better if Unify was to advance its own modulation matrix.

Well it IS possible to output CC messages from a MIDI effect layer/insert. Skippy uses this to very good effect in Cloud City V1.

However, I hear what you're saying and don't worry, we are certainly thinking along the same lines.

Sorry Shane I thought CC output was limited to CC#1.

..I cannot seem to get any CC messages out of the Reason Rack's MIDI Out device, though notes work just fine. To be fair this may be a peculiarity of Reason ( https://youtu.be/9SR_qQDGHuI?t=182 ) but I am assuming it's in the hands of the VST host's developers.

Let's keep an eye on this. Unify would not be filtering out CC's, unless there is something in your MIDI-effects chain (especially MIDI Filter) which is set to do so. Check Reason Rack Effect settings, to see if there's a checkbox to enable CC out.

Yes sorry Shane, I can see it's possible to output arbitrary CC messages from MIDI files in MIDIbox; I thought this was limited to CC#1.

There is an issue with getting CC out of the Reason Rack plugin. I'm not using a MIDI filter or anything else which should suppress CC messages; there are no settings to affect CC out of the Reason Rack plugin. In theory it should just work.

There is a difference between Unify v1.0.12 and v1.1.3 whereby now only the Reason Rack Plugin Effect plugin receives a MIDI context when it's used on a MIDI layer or as a MIDI insert - it is aware of the host MIDI clock and it can output MIDI. This is not true for the non-effect flavoured Reason Rack Plugin which (since Unify v1.1.3) has become crippled on MIDI layers/inserts and will only generate MIDI when it's used as an Instrument.

I have a hunch that CC output might be exclusive to the non-effect flavoured Reason Rack Plugin. Is it possible you could reinstate whatever it was in Unify v1.0.12 which gave the non-effect flavoured Reason Rack Plugin a working MIDI context?

Most interesting observations. I'm not aware of any difference between Unify 1.0.12 and 1.1.3 that would affect MIDI output from instrument plug-ins. This is getting too intricate to cover effectively here. I will try emailing you directly.

For anyone else watching this thread, I'm happy to report progress. The issue is complex, but the good news is I now have MIDI CC-out working from the Reason Rack plug-ins in Unify, thanks to some code and suggestions from none other than KARMA developer Stephen Kay.

With any luck, we can include this in the forthcoming v1.1.4 update for Unify, which I hope to have out in another week or so.
