It would be nice if layers could be easily laid out and controlled on an XY pad with visual feedback.

Another excellent idea. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "...layers could be easily laid out...".

I can add XY pads, but the most straightforward way to do it would be to treat each pad as equivalent to two macro controls (one for X, one for Y), and provide the same GUI as we already have for macro knobs, to associate a different list of linked parameters for each one. Would that be sufficient, or am I missing something?

I tried that with volume but the problem with mapping the knobs that way is that the knobs pick up the value from the other knob since they are both operating on the same underlying parameter (in this case patch volume). Or I'm setting it up wrong.

So what I want is to have one layer activated by one quadrant. So say if I have the XY on CC 16 and 17. Up for both would be Layer 1 solo, Down for both would be Layer 4 solo. Up for 16, down for 17 would be Layer 2 solo. Down for 16 and Up for 17 would be Layer 3 solo. But when I tried to do this the value was bouncing all over the place rather than moving smoothly in the XY space. This works for X or Y alone but not together. But maybe I have the routing wrong...

I think I understand now. You're basically trying to set up a vector pad. Let me look into this a bit.
