Midi Controller Files - Multiple midi channels
Recently I started using the midi fighter twister. This midi controller has 16 knobs per bank and each knob can do several things. Dependent on the settings you give it, it sends a midi CC message on different midi channels.
F.e. 1 knob can have 3 states:
knob off : cc12 midi channel 1 / toggle knob : cc12 midi channel 2 / knob on : cc12 midi channel 5
Thus with one knob I f.e. want to use the off-knob for mixlevel, the toggle-knob for midiEnable and the on-knob for auxSend
I would like to put this in the midi controller file to have it standard at my disposal when I use unify. However there is no midi channel reference in the midi controller file.
Is there a possibility to get this possible in the midi controller file?
Thank you for the detailed explanation and reference to the MIDI Fighter Twister by DJ Tech Tools. I understand now why you would need the ability to specify MIDI channel number as well as CC number to get the most out of a controller like this.
I've added this to my to-do list and will look into it!
A great feature of the MIDI Fighter Twister is the dynamic feedback via the LED rings, the multi-color LED at the 6 o'clock and the bicolor LED at the 12 o'clock position of each encoder. These can be controlled and configured by sending it MIDI messages on other channels. Details toward the end of the User Guide here.
This is why it would be handy for Unify to send MIDI messages for the macro knobs. Unlike the Korg nanoKontrol and other controllers that use faders instead of endless encoders, the LEDs could dynamically update to show the current macro knob values as different patches are selected. Behringer, Akai and Novation controllers also feature encoders with LED rings.
This is why it would be handy for Unify to send MIDI messages for the macro knobs...
Handy, yes. Easy, no. It may be quite a while before I could implement this, because the existing code structure wasn't built for it.
