@eallan (and anyone interested)

Today I'm posting a video and a more revised basic version of my Alternative Unify Patch Browser.  I had a request to post the script.  It's main purpose is to show patches in either full-screen or half-screen.  It allows me to play 2 separate midi controller keyboards with their own separate embedded layer and to send patch changes via Osc.

The video helps explain what it is and what I do with it.  It contains audio of me explaining a few things.

The zip file contains the current version of the script and a few more needed files.  This version is a stripped down version called "UnifyOSCBasic.AHK".  I've taken away some of the features you see in the video such as some of the buttons because they only apply to programs on my computer.  Also, I eliminated the Midi capability, featuring OSC instead because that has less complications.  In the zip file is "MY-README.TXT" which contains the details of setting it up and getting it working.  It assumes screen resolution to be 1920 x 1080 but could be changed as well as the colors.  Ping me on this if interested.  Feedback is welcomed.

Hi @craigr68 ,

Many thanks for your post. Great that you managed to do this.

Have downloaded file and hope to try over the weekend if possible.

Will report back then.

Hi @craigr68 ,

Have installed UnifyOSCBasic and carried out all the instructions.
All my Unify Libraries are all displayed.

Unify has loaded the 1DX Ch1 OXY Ch8 patch
Unfortunately Unify is not responding to patch changes.

(Tried with both OSC(Advanced) Enable  'ANY IP' and 127.0.0.1 with port 9001)

I'm Using AHK v1.1.36.1 , is that ok?

I have TouchOSC installed but not running - would that affect things at all?

Hi @eallan

I think there's a good possibility the older version could be the issue.  I have a second older Dell computer from year 2012 that I copied the code over to for testing.  It failed at first and I'm sure it was because of an older Unify version.  So I updated it to the latest 1.11.4 and then it worked.  It was very easy to update with the downloadable updater version.

Do you get the screen flash showing it's sending the Osc command?  And does it have a row number as the last thing shown?  When you say TouchOSC is not running, did you mean it also doesn't work?

I have few questions that would help me understand how compatible the script is.

Did you watch the video?

Are you running 1920 x 1080?

What do you want to do with the script?  Are you running 2 controller keyboards like me?

What's the basic details of your computer?  For me I'm running a Dell Alienware M14 gaming laptop, i7 processor, 32G memory, with SSD

And how many patches do you have all together?

Hi @craigr68 ,

Thanks for your reply. Have just upgraded AHK to v1.1.37.02 without any change.

Do you get the screen flash showing it's sending the Osc command? -> Yes
And does it have a row number as the last thing shown? -> Yes , it displays (green text)

DX then Patch Name and Library name and then OSC command and /inst/1/unify/load 7149

When you say TouchOSC is not running .... -> I have it installed but have not used it yet.
Did you watch the video? -> Yes , thank you.
Are you running 1920 x 1080? -> Yes
What do you want to do with the script? -> One thing is to see all patches at once without scrolling
What's the basic details of your computer? -> HP SFF with i7 and 32Gb RAM and SSD
And how many patches do you have all together? -> 40380 patches in all

Hi @eallan

I didn't notice that you were talking about Autohotkey version which probably doesn't matter, but probably all the better that you upgraded.  I'm also on 1.1.37.02.  I was thinking about Unify version which hopefully you're on 1.11.4.  If not, I'd upgrade that.  I have the default Any IP Port 9001 selected.

I can't think of anything in the script that would be the problem if it's sending out row number as you describe.  Seems it might be something to do with UDP communication to Unify.  You might try temporarily turning off Windows firewall and trying it.  Maybe udp is being blocked.  I'm assuming you have the basic top level patch loaded and you're looking at the embedded layer for the change to take place.  I have TouchOsc installed and the script still and always has worked.  Maybe see if you can get TouchOsc working.

Hi @craigr68 ,

I installed Protokol v0.5.6.110(Hexler) and it was able to assist in getting iPad TouchOSC and

TouchOSC Desktop both working(once I discovered that the layout that I tried initially , Unify-control2.tosc

was not working - however the examples at

https://github.com/kevleyski/unify-batch/tree/main/Kasm Unifier/Controllers/TouchOSC

do work and were used to check OSC messages were being transferred over WiFi and locally.)

Could not get any OSC messages from UnifyOSCBasic.AHK , yet on testing on another PC there

were messages , although I could not check patch changes as Unify Demo was used)

Tried again this afternoon and began to wonder if it was a  Permission issue.

So, compiled UnifyOSCBasic.AHK to EXE with AHK2EXE and run the compiled EXE as Administrator

and was able to get Unify to change patches 🙂

There have been a few times where the patch has kept playing note but not sure why.

Many thanks for sharing your script.

Do you by any chance have any working Unify Layouts for TouchOSC?

I almost mentioned a permission problem because I just remembered I had that happen with 2 other scripts, but not this script.  Glad you figured that out.  Probably if you move the script to some other folder it would work with the ahk version, but using .exe version is probably fine also.  I'm curious what folder you put the script in.

I've only experimented with TouchOsc.  I came to the conclusion that I probably wouldn't use it after testing it.  I've thought it might be nice if I had something like an Ableton push with a bunch of buttons, I could use that to cue up favorite Unify patches.  I attached Test1.tosc which is my pathetic first TouchOsc test.  Also attached screenshot.  It has some sliders and the buttons at the bottom send Osc patch changes that do work with the patch I sent.  Maybe it would be of help for that.  Maybe you could search the forum here for TouchOsc because there's been some other posts and people who know TouchOsc better than me.

Hi @craigr68 ,

Your Script was put into C:\Program Files\Autohotkey\_Scripts.

Thanks for attaching your layout. TouchOSC has a steep learning curve

and it's time consuming just to try to copy the working objects into the

layout that does not work(but looks good).

Have Volume and Mute Working.

Hoping to be able to figure out how switch off a Layer.

Maybe use your Patch change buttons to auto load your special Patch

to save scrolling to select Library as my wrist is not in good shape after years of mousing.

Will try to put as much as possible on to a touch surface.

Hi @eallan

It occurred to me if you're only using one keyboard controller, you really don't need the special patch with 2 embedded levels.  You only would need Unify to be running any way you want to start it with no special patch loaded.  So I made a version where I replaced "/inst/1/unify/load" with "/load".  And I deleted lines with "/inst/2/unify/load" so that right click and shift-right click will do nothing.  I called it UnifyOSCTL.ahk (TL for top layer).

I have notepad.exe opening the script with the EditScr button at top.  If you go down in the script to buttonEditScr, you can change what editor opens the script.  I have it set to notepad but any editor could be setup there.  I have some lines their uncommented to open it in notepad++.

Hi @craigr68 ,

Thank you for creating a one Controller version without a special patch.

Will install it shortly.
