I recently bought DS Thorn really cheap on sale. When I needed a nice subby clean bass, I realized how simple yet powerful and efficient this synth is, so I started unifying it (which is a lot of work, as I came to realize).

I am very far from finished, but here's a little demo of the macros doing their thing applied to one of the fatcory presets:

Hi @klasus

I applaud your efforts but just to let you know that I have Unified PA (DS) Thorn ( see here https://forums.pluginguru.com/unify-patchbook/unified-libraries-status/ ). However, there is an issue which needs to be clarified before I can make it available.

The issue is that, aside from the standard presets, it comes with 3 additional preset banks; XP EDM Essentials, XP Rob Lee Vol 1 and XP Rob Lee Vol 2. The question is whether these can be included in the Unified Factory library as they aren't, strictly speaking, factory presets but rather add-on presets. Then again they are included in the purchase of PA (DS) Thorn so maybe they can be considered as part of the factory library idk.

My gut instinct would be to exclude them from the Unified Library to be on the safe side.

@zinct Thanks for your reply.

I just deleted the presets folder and plugins and re-installed them via PA Installation Manager on Mac just to see if there were any changes. It comes with the 3 additional "XP" banks.

I will include them because:

1. They come with the plugin install so I consider them part of the factory library

2. All the Unify preset does is instantiating the plugin and then calling the preset present in the DS Thorn Plug-In Presets folder. And if it is not installed on your disk you will get an error. So it's not like I am sharing any actual DS Thorn presets/content.

If it's for personal use then you can pretty much Unify anything you own including add-ons. If making them available for others though, it's always best to check with the developer to make sure that they are happy for their factory presets to be made available in this way. So I always err on the side of caution. For Thorn I have made a factory only Unfiied version and another version that includes the add-ons (for personal use for now).

There are a small number of developers who have declined the offer of making even their factory patches available in Unify, and it's wise to respect their wishes. I know that John and Shane take a lot of care when making Unified libraries to check that the developer is happy.

If you made one already, why is it not available? Have you spoken to John or Shane about it? Have you offered it to them for review? I ask because I don't wan to spend all this is time and effort to create a unified library which has been done already.

That is why I posted above; to save you the bother of doing it manually, unless you would like to do it anyway.

I have literally Unified thousands of presets and many libraries, but I tend to put anything on ice where there's an issue, and get on with Unifying other libraries. Since posting the above thread last June Thorn I have had one person ask about the progress of Thorn, hence my reluctance to give it any priority.

But my question was: did you talk to John or Shane about releasing it. I think you are creating "issues" where there isn't one. At least as far as Thorn is concerned.

I don't send all of my Unified libraries to John, just the ones I think he is interested in or asks about. Many people, myself included, post other factory libraries on these forums so maybe that's the best place for this library.

The only issue I want to avoid creating is having Dmitry Sches or Rob Lee chasing me for copyright infringement.

I am pretty sure that won't happen since they licensed them to Plugin Alliance. And again, like I said: all that the unify preset does is instantiating the plugin and loading the preset included in the installation. If that would infringe copyright, preset creators need to sue any DAW developer which stores a synth plugin and the seletced preset. 😀

@klasus

I am actually in the process of sending some newly Unified libraries to John today, so I will include Thorn in with them.

@zinct Cool, because I am only about half way there. I am doing this all manually on macOS. I saw that there's some kind of script for Windows.

Yes, I'm using AutoHotKey. I have split it into two libraries, one with just the factory presets and another with the extras.
John has released other Unified PA libraries, so hopefully they will be open to the idea, and if they don't want the extras included then it's easy to exclude them.
