User notes for all patches

In discussion with Daniela on the Facebook group, I thought it would be good to add a feature request here. I'd like to be able to add my own (typically technical) notes to any patch, regardless of whether it be an editable or locked patch. Currently, the only way to add comments to a locked patch is to duplicate it in a user library, and now there are 2X of the same patch. This becomes more problematic:

  1. When patch libraries are updated, my duplicated patch doesn't get updated.
  2. When I search for patches I'm seeing doubles, which starts to get unnecessarily messy.

Here's an example of comments that I might add that help me make better use from a patch that might not have these notes:

"Guitar-like attack with a slowly decaying pad, lots of reverb. Modwheel changes cutoff, aftertouch changes resonance. Macro knob for LFO makes this patch have a gated decay."

@lowell

I saw part of that Facebook discussion, and I agree it would be nice to be able to add "user comments" to patches without having to re-save them. Unfortunately, this will be quite challenging to implement, so it's not something I can "poke in" for Unify 1.7, but I'll add it to the to-do list.

@getdunne Yeah, and thinking about where those would go... don't necessarily want to double up on the amount of space that notes already take, yet they probably need screen space. Unless it was a pop-out window/panel that docked to the right side of Unify. So those who never used it would never see it. That's probably even more complex. I'm sure you'll figure something out down the road. 🙂
